Dr Mitchell graduated from Massey University in New Zealand in 2003. She completed equine medicine and surgery internships at both the University of Sydney and University of Melbourne, Australia. Following a 18mths spent in ambulatory mixed private practice, she successfully completed a residency in Large Animal Medicine at Cornell University, USA between 2007-2010. Dr Mitchell became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal Internal Medicine) in 2010. After this, she returned to mixed ambulatory private practice in Australia for 3 years. In 2013 Dr Mitchell moved to Switzerland where she undertook a PhD in equine cardiovascular medicine, particularly studying equine arrhythmias, which was successfully defended in July 2018. During this time in Switzerland, Dr Mitchell developed skills in echocardiography in variety of species, from mice and rats to sheep, cattle and horses and now offers a preclinical echocardiography service that other research groups to utilise. She currently divides her time as a senior clinician/researcher in equine medicine and cardiology at the University of Zurich, and as a senior clinician in equine medicine at the University of Bern, Switzerland.
